Fandroids have been excited by the sight of alleged leaked images of a next-generation Nexus 7, as well as documents claiming the device will soon appear in US stores. And, with Google preparing for a press event next week, the prospect of a new device and perhaps a new mobile OS looms nearer.
Yesterday, Engadget published internal documents sent by an anonymous tipster that claimed a new Nexus 7 from Google is on the way.
The documents indicated that the new device would arrive in stores in the US as early as 20 July, while release to the public on 24 July is more likely, as this is the day Google has invited the press over for breakfast with Sundar Pichai, Google SVP of Android and Chrome.
The 32GB Asus-manufactured device was priced at US$269.99 in the leaked files.
The same source apparently got in touch with Android Central, too, and shared images purporting to be of the new Nexus 7. If this is indeed the device (though it could just be an early prototype), we could be looking at a 7-inch LCD, Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, an incredible 4GB RAM, dual speakers, and a 5MP rear camera in addition to the 1.2MP one on its front.
Both a 16GB and 32GB version is expected, and the latest information has also hinted at the presence of a yet-to-be-announced Android 4.3 (Key Lime Pie? Krispy Kreme? Kir Royale? We’ll have to wait and see).
