International IT firm Kainos has launched a free two-week course in mobile app creation to help discover and foster tech talent among young innovators.
Kainos Summer CodeCamp will take place from 22 July to 2 August at Belfast Metropolitan College. Here, up to 80 participants aged 17 to 19 will work closely with mentors and use MIT AppInventor to build Android apps to be published to Google Play.
These finished apps will be judged by a panel from Kainos and Belfast Met and there’ll be a prize for the best in show.
Applicants must have qualifications in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects and, over the course of two weeks, will learn app development skills and put them to the test in a real-world setting.
“Recent generations were responsible for the World Wide Web and the iPhone; who knows what the next generation will come up with?” said Kainos CTO Tom Gray. “Our goal is to find those creative minds that are currently locked away in their bedrooms, and give them the encouragement and backing they need to develop their talents and realise their dreams.”
