Budget airline Ryanair is to create more than 3,000 jobs for engineers, pilots and cabin crew, as a result of purchasing about US$15bn worth of new aircraft.
The Irish airline said it would be taking 175 of Boeing’s new 737-800 aircraft, which will be delivered over the period up to 2019, The Independent reported.
The order, announced in March, has been finalised today at the Paris Air Show.
The new planes will allow Ryanair to grow its fleet to more than 400 aircraft, serving more than 100m passengers a year across Europe by 2019, The Independent reported.
Ryanair chief executive Michael O’Leary said the new airplanes will enable the company to lower costs and airfares even further.
