Auction site eBay is awash with trinkets and paraphernalia pertaining to Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding on 29 April, but among the flags, mugs and thimbles for sale is the domain name www.thebritishroyalwedding2011.com. Asking price? £25,000.
The domain name’s seller, cjw.wrightprice, welcomes bidders to make an offer on the price of www.thebritishroyalwedding2011.com, of which 20pc of the final sale price will support Down Syndrome International, the eBay for Charity listing says.
The listing describes the domain as “very similar to the Palace’s ‘official’ website domain. This means that the potential amount of internet traffic that this domain name could receive is incredible. Millions of people all over the world will be searching and visiting the officialroyalwedding2011.org in the coming months and for years to come long after the wedding.”
The domain name, the listing continues, would benefit someone who wants to develop their own website under this domain name or someone who just wants to own a piece of history.
The domain name has been registered with Go Daddy and the seller says he or she has a ‘Certified Domain’ status for authenticity.
The sale of www.thebritishroyalwedding2011.com ends on 12 April, unless a bidder uses the “Buy It Now” option. At time of writing, no bids had yet been placed.
