US insurance giant Unum has announced today that it is to create 40 high-tech jobs at its software centre in Carlow. The new jobs will bring Unum’s headcount in Carlow to 112 people.
Unum is a provider of financial protection benefits for employees such as disability, life, accident and critical illness insurance.
In 2008, the Tennessee-headquartered Unum announced that it was setting up a Carlow operation to provide software support to the company, which has offices across the US and the UK. Unum employs more than 10,000 people globally.
The Carlow operation develops software solutions for Unum’s customers.
ICT Ireland, the IBEC group that represents the high-tech sector, has welcomed the news that Unum is creating 40 jobs in Carlow.
“Today’s announcement by Unum is very encouraging. Not only is Ireland viewed as a world-class location for technology companies, it is also seen as a premier location for the technology divisions of corporations from broader sectors, such as financial services,” said Paul Sweetman, the director of ICT Ireland.
