Twitter users are being warned to be on their guard against the latest advertising attack based on acai berries that will result in Twitter accounts being hijacked and turned into spam accounts.
The attack is spreading at an alarming pace and so far it is estimated that hundreds of thousands of tweets relating to the attack are popping up on Twitter.
Users who receive the Acai berry tweet are being warned not to click on the ‘acainews’ link.
Gawker attack
It is also believed the spam is coming from already compromised accounts rather than malicious code associated with the link.
According to reports, the tweets may be related to the hack that cracked Gawker’s user database, which compromised the password information of 1.3 million users.
