Google’s rumoured social networking project, which is said to be called Google +1, may have involvement from co-founder Sergey Brin and is currently in the shape of a toolbar across Google services.
According to TechCrunch, there have been numerous internal code names for the project, including Emerald Sea, but as of now, it’s called “Google +1” or “Google Plus One.”
Google co-founder Sergey Brin is said to be taking an active role in the project, moving it to an area of the Google HQ called “Building 2000.” The area is meant to be in lock down while the project is being prepared.
Google +1 is rumoured to be a toolbar which spans across all of its services, which will include Chrome.
Sources said it will be a Chrome extension as opposed to it being built into the browser.
This would be in line with what Google’s head of mobile product development Hugo Barra said recently, when he said the company would not be “working on a social network platform that’s just going to be another social network platform.”
Barra said it would be a more layered approach, adding social elements to existing products.
