A four-day Irish trade mission taking place in Brazil is targeting the emerging market with exports and employment in mind.

The Enterprise Ireland trade mission to Sao Paulo, Brazil, begins today with 34 innovative-led Irish firms vying for business and targeting jobs in Ireland.

Minister for Trade and Commerce Billy Kelleher, TD, leads the export-focused drive along with firms that span a wide range of sectors, including telecoms, energy, engineering and finance, whose products and services are at the forefront of high-tech innovation.

Major modernisation

“Brazil is a key target market for Irish firms with major modernisation, infrastructure and development projects under way in the country,” said Kelleher.

“The upcoming World Cup and Olympic Games, coupled with rapidly expanding oil and gas industries, hold huge business opportunities for Irish firms. The education, telecoms and financial services sectors have strong market potential for Irish firms, too.”

Brazil will host the World Cup in 2014 and the Olympic Games in 2016, adding extra focus to the trade mission as an important platform to develop business opportunities for Irish firms around these two events.

Represented on the mission are Cathx Ocean, Dublin Institute of Technology, Ezetop, S3 Software, and Web Reservations International, among others.

The trade mission starts in Sao Paulo today before moving to Rio de Janeiro tomorrow evening.
