Medical devices start-up awarded €30k prize

A medical devices spin-off from Trinity College Dublin (TCD) has been awarded the first Eircom University Challenge Award at the Irish Technology Leadership Forum (ITLG).

Start-up Miravex, which specialises in the area of optics and image analyses, is the first medical diagnostic and imaging device to analyse skin conditions.

The award, which consists of €20,000 cash pus €10,000 worth of services from Eircom, saw Miravex beat competition from two other finalists.

“We were very impressed with the extremely high quality applications we received for the award and we look forward to supporting Miravex and welcoming them to Silicon Valley next year,” said founder and president of the ITLG, John Hartnett.

The company will also receive an invitation to travel to Silicon Valley to attend the 2011 Irish Technology Leaders Silicon Valley Awards in March next year.

Dr Roman Kantor, Dr Guido Mariotto and Prof Igor Shvets, who have four decades of combined experience in the area of optics, image analysis and signal processing, founded Miravex was founded in 2009.
