An environmental ranking list of the top international and US-based companies according to company size, number of employees and revenues has been released.
The global 100 list, published on Newsweek.com, contains numerous technology power houses, such as Nokia, Panasonic, Sony, Hewlett-Packard (HP) and Vodafone, as well as pharmaceutical companies such as Pfizer, Novartis and GlaxoSmithKline.
While the global list, topped by International Business Machines (IBM), listed 13 technology companies – seven of which were in the top 10 – the US list listed almost 49 technology sector organisations.
Green score
Companies were ranked on their overall “green score” which is taken from three component scores: the Environmental Impact Score (EIS), the Green Policies Score (GPS) and the Reputation Survey Score (RSS).
On the global list, IBM finished on top and was closely followed by HP, while Nokia and Vodafone struggled to break into the top 10. (A list of how the technology companies ranked is displayed below).
One notable omission from the global list was Google, which ranked 14th among the US companies.
