Kevin Melia, one of Ireland’s most senior technology veterans, has resigned from the board of Horizon Technology as a non-executive director. It is understood that Melia, who is also chairman of Iona Technologies, may be about to join the new board of Eircom.
Melia, who has sat on the board of Horizon for six years, believed that the time had come to step down.
One of Ireland’s best known technology executives, Wicklow native Melia held senior vice president and CFO positions at Digital Equipment Corporation and Sun Microsystems before establishing his own New York Stock Exchange-listed company Manufacturing Services Limited in 1994, which subsequently was sold last year to Celestica.
Melia joined the board of Iona last year as chairman following the return to the helm as CEO of founder Chris Horn.
Recent media reports suggest that Melia will join a number of high-profile business figures such as Maurice Pratt on what will be a revamped board of Eircom, which is due to begin its second flotation on the public markets next week.
