Dublin’s first ever Startup Weekend, which took place over a 54-hours period last weekend, encouraged attendees to pitch ideas, spitball and meet like-minded individuals in a bid to encourage the emergence of new projects in the technology space.
Hosted by the NDRC (National Digital Research Centre), the inaugural Dublin Startup Weekend saw many great ideas and potential companies of which the winner was geoDealio, a mobile location-based service to provide users with deals offered by nearby cafes, bars and restaurants – a specialised web app that will soon be released on the App Store for the iPhone.
Classometer got a special recognition award. This is a web-based service, making the administration of classes like yoga, karate and dance easier by making it easy to track attendance and payments from a mobile phone for the class organiser.
“The enthusiasm, positivity and support was vibrant throughout the Startup Weekend; projects evolving from concept to launch-ready status within a weekend is an amazing achievement,” said Ben Hurley, CEO of NDRC.
“NDRC cultivates bolder attitudes towards invention and investment through projects with interdisciplinary skill sets and contributions from academia and industry. Startup Weekend fits neatly with our approach. NDRC, were delighted to support this event,” he added.
