To overlap with the launch of its range of 3D TVs in the UK, Sony is to release a firmware update for the PS3 console but unusually this won’t include an update for the Blu-ray player on the PlayStation.
The PS3 firmware update will be for the slew of 3D games coming onto the market, including Avatar, LittleBigPlanet and Killzone 2.
Specifically, the four titles officially announced by Sony as supporting 3D are Wipeout HD, MotorStorm Pacific Rift, PAIN and Super Stardust HD and these will be bundled free with the forthcoming Bravia HD TV.
Not to worry, though, the second 3D-related firmware update for the PS3 later this year will bring 3D support for the Blu-ray player so your 3D movies including Avatar, Up and Clash of the Titans will all be playable on the PlayStation console.
