Due to strong demand for the iPad in the US, Apple has made a decision to delay the international launch of the tablet device by one month.
Originally slated for release in the UK, France, Germany, Australia, Japan and other countries worldwide at the end of April, the iPad will now be available for online pre-orders on Monday 10 May with shipping happening at the end of May.
International pricing will also be announced on 10 May. Although Ireland was not listed along with other countries as getting the iPad at the end of April, it may be included in the May launch.
Apple says demand for the iPad is “far higher than we predicted” and is likely to exceed its supply levels over the next few weeks, adding that it has also taken a large number of pre-orders for iPad 3G models for delivery by the end of April.
“We know that many international customers waiting to buy an iPad will be disappointed by this news, but we hope they will be pleased to learn the reason – the iPad is a runaway success in the US thus far,” said Apple.
