Research in Motion (RIM) has said it has restored services to customers in Europe, the Middle East and Africa, after a major fault yesterday brought down online BlackBerry services, such as internet access and instant messaging, affecting millions of users.
“Yesterday, some BlackBerry subscribers in the EMEA region experienced delays with BlackBerry services. The issue was resolved and services are operating normally,” RIM said in a statement.
“We apologise to those customers who were impacted for any inconvenience.”
The fault marks the latest blow for RIM, which has been struggling in the increasingly competitive smartphone market.
RIM’s revenue fell in the last quarter and it reduced its workforce by 2,000 people. It also faced some negative publicity when it was discovered that London rioters were using BBM to communicate.
