Domain name and hosting provider LetsHost has dropped the price of a .ie domain name by 50pc to €9.99. But will other domain providers follow its lead?
The move is an effort to provide new businesses and personal users a value-for-money alternative to traditional .com domain registrations.
Other companies have followed suit, with the next nearest competitor, Blacknight, selling at €16.95.
LetsHost director Graeme Conkie said the company currently accounts for more than one in five domains registered in 2009.
“Current registration figures year to date amount to over 31,000 domains. As a result of these volumes, LetsHost are in a position to provide new registrations and transfers at this incredible price for the remainder of the year,” Conkie said.
Conkie said that five years ago the typical price of a .ie domain name registration was typically in excess of €100.
