Lero, the Irish software engineering research centre that is based in the University of Limerick, has been recognised as one of the Top 15 information systems (IS) research centres in the world by the Association for Information Systems’ (AIS) recently published ranking.
Also recognised is Lero professor Brian Fitzgerald, who ranks as the second leading IS researcher in the world, as name checked in two leading international journals in the field of information systems, MIS Quarterly and Information Systems Research, AIS.
“This is an exceptional honour for Lero and Prof Fitzgerald, naturally. These journals are widely regarded as the best in the field and it is extremely rewarding and encouraging to have our expertise recognised by an organisation such as the AIS, which has 4,000 members in 90 countries across the globe,” said Prof Kevin Ryan, centre director of Lero.
“Traditionally, the IS field has been dominated by North American academics so it is particularly encouraging for Lero to be ranked so highly on the international stage. Lero’s software engineering research is relevant to the critical information systems on which the world depends” he added.
Lero recently took on world-recognised software engineering academic Bashar Nuseibeh as chief scientist, while he was also appointed to the post of professor of software engineering at the University of Limerick.
Nuseibeh was formerly chair and director of research in computing at The Open University and also assumes the role of visiting professor at Imperial College London and the National Institute of Informatics, Japan.
