With Christmas on the horizon, it’s time to start thinking about stocking up on some select reds and sparkling wines to entertain your guests. Here are two Irish wine blogs to help you distinguish between your cabernet sauvignons and your syrahs.
According to the founder of Sour Grapes, Lar Veale, the mission of this blog is to give reviews of affordable wines available in Ireland. Sour Grapes has a handy ‘A–Z of Grapes’ reference section, while its ‘wine talk’ section features interviews and guest bloggers.
I like the ‘Wine of the Week’ section, which points you to good-value, yet premium, wines.
Sour Grapes also has useful links to other wines blogs, both from Ireland and further afield.
The Curious Wines blog belongs to the Cork company of the same name. Packed to the brim with information about wine, this blog has an entertaining ‘Curious Facts & Fun’ section, with posts such as ‘2009 a good year for English winemakers,’ reporting on how global warming has been a factor in the evolution of English wines.
Curious Wines also features videos showing how to prepare various dishes, such as ‘Herb encrusted lamb chops,’ offering suggestions on the types of wine to serve with these meals.
