The telecommunications sector got a new regulator yesterday with the formal establishment of the new Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) to take over from the Office of the Director of Telecommunications Regulation (ODTR).
The new three-person commission is being headed up by chairperson Etain Doyle, John Doherty, who was previously head of market operations at the ODTR, and Isolde Goggin, a former member of the Competition Authority.
ComReg, as the new body will be known, is the statutory body charged with the licensing and regulation of the electronic communications industry in Ireland and also has responsibility for regulating the postal sector.
The body is financed by licencing revenue, the Department of Communications, spectrum fees and a .2pc-3.5pc levy on turnover.
The body’s new email address is www.comreg.ie.
