The PC has done a lot of things for humankind, and now even it has even overtaken pet dogs as ‘man’s best friend’, a survey conducted by YouGov suggests.
Almost two-thirds of survey respondents said they consider their computers as “a more constant companion than a dog”. This is more so among younger dog owners.
One reason behind the survey findings may be that people are spending more time with their PCs – internet browsing, online shopping, watching videos, social networking and consuming news online – than with their four-legged friends.
Only 6pc of the survey respondents said they believe “most people rely more on their dog than they do on their PC”, while 67pc said they think the opposite is true.
A spokesperson for Computeractive, which commissioned the study with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, said: “These days you can even take your PC for a walk, provided you have a laptop or tablet.”
