Dell expects to recruit 150 people in the next two years with the creation of its first Cloud Research and Development (R&D) Centre in Dublin and its first Dell Solution Centre built globally, in Limerick.
Recruitment is under way at both sites for world-class software engineers, IT architects, engineers and developers.
Supported by IDA Ireland, the Dell Solution Centre in Limerick was part of Dell’s previously-announced plans to invest $1bn globally in new technology solutions and serviceswhile the Dublin Cloud R&D Centre is a new announcement.
“Ireland has become a focal point of global information technology development, and Dell’s decision to locate new strategic resources in Ireland will help us to realise our ambition of becoming a centre of excellence for cloud,” said Taoiseach Enda Kenny, TD.
“The calibre of Dell people and the nature of their work in Ireland are consistent with our ambition to be a knowledge-driven economy. We are very pleased to see continued momentum in this direction, especially the creation of new jobs in this vital sector of our economy.”
The strategy behind the centres
The Cloud R&D Centre will help develop the next-generation cloud computing architecture on a global basis. The centre will act as a proof-of-concept laboratory, helping Dell customers to leverage their existing hardware platforms while driving innovation, new development work and thought leadership in the cloud.
The primary focus of the centre will be developing OpenStack-based capabilities, Storage-as-a-Service solutions and Software-as-a-Service enabling technology.
The Dell Solution Centre in Limerick is part of a global network of 22 centres with extensive customer engagement capabilities, designed to give access to Dell technology and solutions experts.
At the centre, Dell experts work with customers to help them make better use of their technology budgets so they can invest less on managing their infrastructures and more on technology innovation to grow their businesses.
Employees at the centre will be involved in R&D work, IP development, IT architecture and engineering as they engage in proof-of-concept testing for customers. In addition, the new solution centre is focusing on data management and virtual desktop solutions globally for Dell.
