Eircom to upgrade 20,000 users to 24Mbps broadband

Eircom today revealed it has cut the price of its 24Mbps broadband service by 17pc to less than €49 and will upgrade 20,000 customers from 8Mbps to the 24Mbps service.

Eircom said 20,000 customers on the 8Mbps NGB Advanced product will be upgraded for free to the 24Mbps NGB Ultimate product.

The company said there are now more than 300,000 customers using its next-generation broadband service at the wholesale and retail level.

More than 240 exchanges will be upgraded by the end of 2011. When the planned NGB rollout is complete, more than 1m (75pc) of Eircom’s working lines will be connected to NGB-enabled exchange.

In December 2010, Eircom passed the 250,000-customer milestone.

The up to 24Mb NGB Ultimate product has been reduced in price by 17pc to €39.82 per month (including VAT) .Up to 850,000 customers nationwide can take advantage of this product. 

Some 110,000 customers on the existing up to 8Mb NGB Regular product will have their usage allowance increased for free from 30GB per month to an unlimited monthly data allowance that is subject to fair usage.
