Apple may be adding 3G Wireless WAN to the Airport and Bluetooth connectivity on its range of MacBooks, if a recent job posting by the Cupertino company is anything to go by.
As reported on ComputerWorld, the job posting (originally on jobs.apple.com, but now no longer posted) detailed qualifications for a QA engineer to work with the Mac Hardware Group, who has experience with “communications technologies including AirPort (802.11a/b/g/n), Bluetooth v2.0, Gigabit Ethernet, and/or 3G Wireless WAN”.
All of the technology specs listed match the current MacBook range, apart from 3G, but whether this points to an updated MacBook with 3G or new connectivity for the rumoured Apple netbook is anyone’s guess.
It may amount to nothing, of course, as pointed out by MacWorld, which added that this could simply be a specification for testing third-party 3G wireless modems for interference with Apple’s own wireless technology.
Either way, all will more than likely be revealed at the WWDC (Worldwide Developers Conference) this coming June, where several big Apple announcements, including the Mac Pro and MobileMe, are expected.
