RTE.ie has today launched its RTÉ player service, which will allow Irish broadband users to access and view the broadcaster’s television shows for up to 21 days after they are aired.
Soaps and news programmes will be accessible through the service for seven days after being broadcast, while entertainment shows will be available for 21 days, according to the broadcaster.
A click and play service, it requires no registration, installation or download.
“This is an exciting new opportunity for Irish viewers to access their favourite programmes whenever they want to,” said Múirne Laffan, executive director of RTÉ Publishing.
“RTÉ player will enhance our service to existing and new RTÉ audiences, extending the availability of our programmes and addressing the challenge to consumers’ viewing habits beyond traditional appointment to view.”
The BBC launched its iPlayer viewing-on-demand service on Christmas Day in 2007 and yesterday reported that the service has had more than 387 million requests to stream or download since then.
