Hibernian awards €700,000 print contract to Canon

Ireland’s largest insurance player Hibernian has awarded a lucrative print strategy contract valued at €700,000 to printer manufacturer Canon.

The aim of the contract is to deploy a strategic and environmentally-friendly managed print service (MPS) that will allow Hibernian to reduce printing costs and paper consumption.

As part of the contract, Canon has installed 48 multifunction devices (MFDs) with colour and black & white MFDs combined with desktop printers.

Canon also installed uniFLOW Output Manager across the organisation, which sends print jobs to a single queue enabling employees to securely access their document from any device in the building.

Hibernian operates a cashless system and employees are issued with a swipe card to use the buildings’ facilities and shops, as well as accessing company resources. This not only ensures the security of sensitive information and cuts wastage of forgotten printouts but it also provides details of all print jobs which can be accessed centrally, allowing Hibernian to monitor and control usage, and therefore costs.

The card-swiping system forms part of the solution to cut down on the amount of paper the company uses each year, a key environmental triumph for the business. Maurice Teague, head of Canon Business Solutions, Canon Ireland, explained: “Increasingly, companies such as Hibernian are moving towards a managed print service, which enables them to reduce both costs and environmental impact.”

Hibernian also deployed remote monitoring service eMaintenance, which ensures any error code issued by a Canon machine is sent directly to its service team, informing them of any service or parts needed. These are relayed to an onsite Canon technician who can take immediate action when necessary, ensuring a high degree of business continuity and availability.

In addition to eMaintenance, Canon has also trained ‘super users’ on each floor to enable workers to troubleshoot for themselves where possible. Both of these measures act as preventative maintenance, meaning minor problems can be dealt with in-house or remotely so the machines enjoy maximum uptime.

“Our partnership with Canon was a strategic fit and has resulted in an intelligent system that suits the way we work, helping us deliver on service excellence,” Stephen Pitcher, executive manager, Group Property & Procurement, Hibernian, explained.

“Hibernian measures all suppliers against set criteria, which include productivity, cost and environmental responsibility and Canon was able to provide solutions and add value in all these key areas.”
