Dublin-headquartered European telecoms player Viatel has added two new points of presence in London and Paris to its European fibre backbone network.
The company said that the demand for bandwidth across key European cities has prompted the connection of Telehouse Metro in London and Paris Equinix 4 to the network.
Viatel has more than 150 points of presence (POPs) across western Europe, with direct reach into cities such as London, Dublin, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Paris and Zurich.
Last August, Viatel embarked on a major €125m expansion plan, including jobs and infrastructure investment across western Europe.
The latest investment follows significant infrastructure growth between Milan and Marseille.
Viatel CEO Colm Piercy said the completed network build is now ready for service and enables Viatel to provide diverse as well as protected wavelength and ethernet services with speeds of up to 100gbps from Milan and Marseille.
“The demand for bandwidth continues to drive our business and we have been working to expand our network reach and capacity significantly over the past year by opening up new routes, adding new POPs to the network and increasing network capacity by adding 100G capabilities across key network routes,” Piercy said.
