10 memes only sound engineers should understand, but you might too

26 Aug 2015

Sound engineers should have all the fun, sitting in on seminal recordings and going to gigs all over the world. The truth, though, is far less glamorous.

First of all, not every piece of digital sound is there to knock your socks off. Rather, it is there to be recorded and played for a niche audience.

Second of all, sound engineers work with ‘artists’, which in itself could constitute a valid description of hell to anybody who lacks patience.

Alas, it’s not all fun and games and, given that it’s festival season, there are many more working now than at any other time of the year.

What they do: Considering how modern music is now digitised, there is very little in the recording of music that they don’t – at least in part – work on.

What they don’t do: Despite what they say, they don’t think you are the best band around.

Educational requirements: A college qualification in audio production or sound engineering to start.

Skills: Patience, strength (to carry around equipment), patience, up-to-date knowledge of audio production software and patience.

So, to add a little humour into their life, here are 10 memes and videos that can hopefully cheer up their overworked souls.
