RTÉ, TV3 and UTV Ireland jump on Sky Go bandwagon

Sky has secured a prize catch in Ireland, securing local stations RTÉ, TV3 and UTV Ireland for its Sky Go package.

The full suite of Irish channels added to Sky’s Go package include RTÉ One, RTÉ2, RTÉ Jr, TV3, 3e and UTV Ireland.

This means customers of the product can watch these channels whenever, or wherever, they want via the Sky Go app.

This “fits into their lifestyles” according to Ann-Marie MacKay, director of products and customer growth at Sky Ireland.

“It’s fantastic that Ireland’s most popular TV channels have been added to Sky Go’s line-up, showing our commitment to giving customers even more of the best TV in a way that’s easy and flexible, and fits into their lifestyles,” she said.

“So, if you’re out and about you can still catch the Six One News, Red Rock, or the Champions League on your phone or tablet.”

This announcement takes place in the midst of the ongoing TV wars between providers, spreading out into peripheral battles, too. Last month, Virgin Media dropped Eir Sport from its package, signing a long-term agreement with Sky.

Last December, Eir acquired sports broadcaster Setanta for an undisclosed sum. The deal included BT Sports’ Irish rights. Eir rebranded its entire Eir Sport pack a few weeks back, with Virgin’s move a blow to the operation.

Sky securing these Irish stations for its on-demand Go package adds more weight to its offering.
