Ahead of the second Career Zoo event of 2016, we look at the talks, workshops and opportunities you won’t want to miss.
Career Zoo, Ireland’s leading sci-tech recruitment and networking event, will tomorrow (15 October) draw hundreds of jobseekers to The Convention Centre Dublin, where candidates will hope to meet their future employer.
Here are just some of the things you won’t want to miss at the event:
1. Exciting employers that want to hire you
- Biotech leader Bristol-Myers Squibb is investing $900m in a new state-of-the-art, large-scale biologics manufacturing facility at Cruiserath, Dublin 15. It is hiring scientists, process engineers, manufacturing associates, QA specialists, QC analysts, automation engineers and more for the new facility.
- Bank of Ireland will be recruiting for a variety of roles, including in fintech and cybersecurity.
- Pramerica, the financial services leader with operations in Letterkenny, the US, Asia, Europe and Latin America, has openings for roles in actuarial, software, financial services, legal and leadership.
- Global financial services firm EY has vacancies in areas such as tech, IT and cyber, audit, tax and corporate finance, HR, marketing, legal, and project management.
- Cybersecurity firm DarkMatter is hoping to entice skilled tech professionals to its UAE base to fill 200 vacancies in areas such as cyber network defence, testing and validation, research, infrastructure and governance, risk, and compliance.
And that’s just a small selection of the more than 50 employers who will be looking to speak with you at the event.
2. EY flash talks
EY is hosting a number of flash talks throughout the day and these are not to be missed.
Highlights will include Julie Fenton from the EY Women’s Network, who will address the crowd at 2.30pm. Fenton will discuss what it’s like to be a woman in the EY workforce and share some of the initiatives the companies have in place to create an environment where women can be supported to succeed. She will also examine how EY is aiming to close the gender balance far in advance of the projected global target of 80 years.
Earlier in the day, at 11.30am, EY’s Unity Network will discuss diversity and inclusiveness in EY. It will examine how a diverse workforce and different ways of working drive creative thinking and lead to great outcomes for EY and their clients.
3. Bank of Ireland workshops
Bank of Ireland leaders will host a series of workshops throughout the day. Don’t miss Barry James, analytics manager, on how to turn customer data into live product innovation (11am), or Frank Moran, IT service continuity manager, on Bank of Ireland’s journey and the opportunities that exist within the organisation for smart, ambitious people (2pm). Register on the Bank of Ireland website for any of these workshops – spaces are limited, so don’t delay.
4. Workshops to unlock your company’s potential
The Allies workshops will focus on ways of unlocking massive potential within your organisation by looking at areas such as breaking down unconscious bias and promoting a positive diversity agenda. With speakers including Etsy’s Niamh Donnelly and Diego Alonso, and talks on creating an inclusive environment for LGBT colleagues, you won’t want to miss this.
5. Discussion on cybersecurity and the digital frontier
Make your way to the Main Stage at 3pm to hear broadcaster Jonathan McCrea compère a discussion on cybersecurity and the digital frontier. McCrea will be joined on stage by Bank of Ireland’s technology security operations manager, Owen McHugh; director of service delivery and investigations at FireEye, Richard Harris; director of DarkMatter, Chris Papathansiou; EY’s cybersecurity senior manager, Jason Guy; and Raluca Saceanu, marketing manager and ISO quality manager at Smarttech.
6. Skills to Scale workshop with Enterprise Ireland
Enterprise Ireland will hold a special workshop exploring approaches and techniques for identifying skills needs, retaining candidates with the right skill sets, and scaling and growing your organisation from a skills perspective.
With an introduction by Paul Regan, head of organisational capability and change at Asavie, this will be a unique opportunity to learn how to grow your organisation.
Asavie has increased their team from 58 to 117 here in Ireland, and throughout EMEA and North America. Hear how they did it at this insightful session.
7. The companies and roles that are changing the world we live in
Speaker sessions at Career Zoo will allow you to discover the companies, roles and trends that are shaping the world in which we live. From big data, cybersecurity, and fintech to artificial intelligence, personal robotics, and gene therapy, the sessions will explore some of the breakthrough fields that will define generations to come.
MC’d by Jonathan McCrea and Arlene O’Neill, there will be discussions on big data and where it is bringing us to next, women in technology and science, and what makes a good workplace in 2016.
8. Tech Box talks
Career Zoo’s Tech Box area is totally dedicated to techies. Get an inside look at the technologies that are driving the world’s most exciting employers. 20-minute sessions will run throughout the day.
Highlights will include Ericsson’s engineering manager, Greg Kinasewitz, discussing next generation TV delivery in the cloud, and DarkMatter’s director Chris Papathanasiou on how advanced and well-funded hackers operate, and the methods to detect them.
9. The companies developing cures for life-threatening illnesses
If you’re in the biotech sector, don’t miss an opportunity to meet companies on the frontline, developing cures for life-threatening illnesses. Employers at Career Zoo will include Bristol-Myers Squibb, as well as top biopharma employers Abbott, Alexion, Biomarin and Parexel.
10. The Career Zoo app
Candidates are encouraged to download the dedicated Career Zoo app and begin using the smart-badging system to digitally share their CVs with the employers they want to get in contact with.
As well as that, the app will have the full schedule for the event and more information about participating speakers and employers.
Career Zoo takes place at The Convention Centre Dublin tomorrow, Saturday, 15 October, from 10am to 5pm. Admission is free, and you can register online until 9pm tonight. You can also head along tomorrow and register at the event venue. Further information is available at www.careerzoo.ie.
