Siemens said the new R&D group will focus on high-performance computing in the cloud for semiconductor design.
Siemens Digital Industries Software is expanding its Shannon operations with the creation of a €7m software research and development group.
The new division will focus on high-performance computing in the cloud for semiconductor design. It is expected to create more than 25 R&D roles in Shannon over the next three years.
Martin Gennery, senior director at Siemens Digital Industries Software, said Shannon has always attracted “top talent” due to its central location in the mid-west between Limerick and Galway. The company’s Shannon operations currently employ around 150 people.
According to Siemens’ website, some of the roles available in Shannon at the moment include senior R&D manager, senior application security architect and engineers in cloud systems, DevSecOps and cloud infrastructure automation.
“This expansion offers an opportunity to work on the latest technologies while benefiting from the work-life balance delivered by hybrid working based in the mid-west,” Gennery said.
Siemens is a leading electronics and electrical engineering company that operates in the industry, energy and healthcare sectors, and provides infrastructure tools for cities and metropolitan areas.
Operating in Ireland since 1925, Siemens employs more than 600 people in the country at facilities in Glasnevin, Swords, Letterkenny and Shannon. The company has had a significant presence in Shannon for more than 20 years, delivering key financial and business operations worldwide.
The new investment in Shannon is the first cloud EDA (electronic design automation) R&D group to be established by Siemens globally and is being supported by the Irish Government through IDA Ireland.
IDA Ireland head of property and regional development Denis Curran described Siemens as a “longstanding employer” in the mid-west region.
“The addition of this new R&D function and the associated transformational impact on the position of the Irish site within the global organisation is significant,” Curran said. “I wish to congratulate Siemens on this expansion and wish them every success.”
Siemens will be recruiting for roles related to a multi-cloud hybrid platform and software-as-a-service project, in areas such as cloud infrastructure, software development, application security, DevOps, high-performance computing and EDA.
