Angry Birds maker Rovio Entertainment has added a new executive vice-president of games to its flock, Jami Laes.
Petri Järvilehto, who had led the games unit’s growth to this stage, has decided to move on in his career.
Laes has extensive experience in gaming. His work with studios in China and Japan appeals to Rovio, since the company has its eyes on international development.
Laes has also built global studio organisations over the past six years to deliver social and mobile games, and he has also held roles at Electronic Arts and Digital Chocolate.
He said accepting the job at Rovio is the natural next step in his career.
“I have always been a huge fan of Angry Birds and it has been great to see the phenomenal success that Rovio has already achieved,” said Laes. “Even so, we’ve only seen a fraction of what can be achieved with great brands like Angry Birds and Bad Piggies and I wanted to be a part of building that story.”
Mikael Hed, CEO of Rovio Entertainment, said the company’s games unit will continue playing a pivotal role in Rovio’s success.
