New intel from Taiwan suggests Apple is predicting it will sell 8m MacBook Air personal computers in the third quarter ending September. This is double the amount sold in the past quarter.
According to Taiwan-based DigiTimes, contract manufacturers are reporting that the shipment of parts and components for MacBook line-ups reached up to 2.4m in June and orders for July are likely to top 2.8m.
The new MacBook Air is expected to feature Apple’s new Mac OS X Lion operating system and will support the new ThunderBolt interface.
Traditionally, Apple ramps up deliveries of components prior to the launch of new products.
The same report suggested total MacBook shipments in 2011 will be 15m units, compared with 13m originally forecast.
