Vodafone to sell Nexus One in Europe

Vodafone has become Europe’s first mobile operator to be given a chance to sell Google’s own-branded smartphone the Nexus One, it has emerged. “Vodafone announces that it will start selling Nexus One from Google directly through its stores and online in the UK from 30 April and in Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and in France through SFR during May,” the company said, not revealing any details on the availability of the device for Ireland.

Salesforce.com and VMware in pact to bring cloud to iPad

Salesforce.com and VMware have formed a strategic alliance to launch what they claim to be the world’s first enterprise Java cloud. VMforce will provide the trusted, open path to the cloud for 6 million enterprise Java developers, including the 2 million member Spring community. As part of the alliance, VMforce will enable Java developers to instantly tap into Force.com platform services, including the Force.com database, Chatter collaboration, workflow, analytics and search.

eSpatial’s web GIS system for Florida’s city of Tampa

Dublin global web GIS company eSpatial’s technology is to be used by the Florida city of Tampa in its comprehensive, city-wide online mapping and analysis system – the first city in the US to use eSpatial’s latest iSMART technology. eSpatial’s Web GIS solution will make spatial data and analysis available across the city through a standard web browser interface that supports the city’s 35-plus departments.

Datapac places 75th student – focus on UC and cloud

Five new students have been selected to join indigenous ICT player Datapac, bringing to 75 the number of students who have joined the company on work placement. The latest crop will focus on virtualisation, the cloud and unified comms. Datapac, which recently created 10 new jobs, has launched its new technical graduate recruitment programme with the Institute of Technology, Tallaght.
