Irish IT services company Ergo IT Products has supplied a server farm to the social networking site Piczo as part of a US$250,000 expansion by the US firm.

Piczo is ranked within the top five teenage websites in the world and sought a co-location site in a Dublin data centre to help with its European expansion. Between 65pc and 70pc of the site’s users are European. The site was launched just under three years ago and attracts 10 million unique visitors monthly and one billion monthly page views.

The initial investment of US$250,000 went on 30 high-end HP Proliant servers as well as Cisco routers, switches, hubs and cabling. Piczo’s IT team handled the deployment while Ergo supplied consultancy services.

Ergo has been engaged to deliver another 40 servers in phase two of the expansion as Piczo plans for rapid European growth to compete with MySpace and Bebo.

“Part of our remit has been to build a server farm that is easy to scale as traffic increases,” said Frazer Furlong (pictured), general manager, Ergo IT Products. “We expect to be working with Piczo well into the future, helping with its growth strategy.”
