Etsy has reported a gross merchandise sale (GMS) of US$546.2m for the second quarter of 2015, ending 30 June.
For the same period, the company posted a profit of US$39.5m, up 56.8pc year-on-year, and revenues of US$61.4m, indicating a growth of 44.4pc.
Etsy attributes the growth in GMS to a 24.6pc growth in active sellers and a 31.6pc growth in active buyers.
The company touted a boost in mobile sales as a contributor to year-on-year growth, stating that GMS from mobile has grown from 36pc to 43pc since the same period last year.
Etsy’s mobile presence has also expanded since this time last year, with a 7pc increase in traffic through the mobile app, and mobile visits growing faster than desktop visits.
This growth is in contrast to the international buyer market.
International buyers purchasing goods listed in US dollars declined by 6pc year-on-year.
However, international buyers purchasing goods indigenously rose by more than 50pc, though this still accounts for only 9pc of total GMS.
Furthermore, Etsy says that currency exchange rates on non-US-dollar purchases are accounting for a 1.9pc reduction in potential GMS growth. On a currency neutral basis, GMS growth would have been 26.5pc.
