Frank Ryan, chairperson designate of the board of IDA Ireland
The former CEO of Enterprise Ireland Frank Ryan has been appointed chairperson designate of the board of IDA Ireland, Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, TD, announced today.
“Frank Ryan, with over 35 years’ experience in supporting the economic development of Ireland, is ideally placed to oversee the next phase of the growth of the multinational sector,” Bruton said.
“I am confident that under his chairmanship, the multinational sector can continue the strong growth which has been so crucial to our economic recovery in recent years.”
Ryan recently retired from Enterprise Ireland, after serving as its CEO from 2003-2012. During that time, exports from Irish companies increased from €9.6bn in 2003 to a record high of €16.2bn in 2012.
Ryan previously worked for IDA Ireland for 25 years, beginning in North America in 1979. He had been part of the team that attracted tech giant Intel’s investment in Ireland in 1989. By the time Ryan left IDA Ireland, he was the agency’s executive director.
In the past two years, IDA Ireland has delivered record performances in terms of jobs growth, with more than 12,000 additional jobs created, record numbers of investments delivered, and more and more companies establishing operations in Ireland, Bruton said.
Prior to serving IDA Ireland, Ryan spent six years working in the ICT industry.
He will appear before the Joint Committee for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation later today.
