Fabless semiconductor maker Xilinx has given its global CIO Kevin Cooney the additional role of managing director of Xilinx Europe.

Cooney, a corporate vice-president of the company, is based in Dublin where Xilinx employs 400 people at its European headquarters and an advanced R&D, engineering and operations centre.

Dublin also fulfils EMEA software development, IT, financial, legal and strategic marketing requirements.

Prior to his current roles, Cooney was Xilinx senior director of information technology (IT) and business development for Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

He is also on the board of Xilinx Ireland. Before joining Xilinx 13 years ago, he worked in various senior positions with Digital Equipment Corporation.

Xilinx designs and produces highly complex semiconductors (programmable logic) capable of being programmed individually for use in a wide range of electronic systems. The company is the global leader in this field of technology.

Xilinx also develops and provides the software tools necessary to program these semiconductor chips, as well as predefined system functions that customers can load as software into Xilinx’s programmable logic devices.
