Samsung to appeal European injunction on 25 August

Samsung will appeal a decision made to block the sale of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in Europe on 25 August, after Apple won a preliminary injunction against the tablet.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Samsung will make the appeal to a region court in Dusseldorf.

Apple won a temporary order against Samsung earlier in the week, claiming the company’s Android tablet infringed on the iPad’s design registration.

The court granted the injunction across most of Europe, apart from the Netherlands, saying Samsung would have to pay “an administrative fine” if it continued to sell its tablets in the continent.

The Netherlands has different laws in place for this matter and Apple is filing a separate case there.

The two tech giants have been involved in bitter legal disputes, mostly involving smartphone and tablet patents. Apple claims Samsung’s Galaxy range of devices infringes on its iPhone and iPad products.

Apple is also requesting a permanent injunction against another Android tablet, the Motorola Xoom, which would ban the sale of the tablet in Europe.
