Zynga buys social-gaming start-up

Social-gaming company Zynga has signed an agreement to aquire Serious Business, fellow creators of social games on Facebook.

The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

In April 2008, Serious Business raised US$4 million in venture capital from Lightspeed Venture Partners. The firm’s apps for social-networking site Facebook include the games ‘Friends For Sale’ and ‘Rock Legends’, which have proven to be popular and generate high revenue.

As part of the agreement, Serious Business employees will join Zynga at the company’s San Francisco headquarters.

Zynga says it now has more than 235 million monthly active users playing its games, which include ‘FarmVille’ and ‘Mafia Wars’, and are available on a range of social-networking services on mobile devices.
