Consumers looking to upgrade their mobile phone service or fix a broadband connection issue are most likely to speak to a customer service representative. This week’s career memes pay tribute to those professionals.
What they do: Customer service reps provide customers with information on products and services, resolve customers’ problems with products and services, open, maintain and cancel customer accounts, collect customers’ information, and analyse customers’ needs.
What they don’t do: Act as personal servants.
Educational requirements: A background in sales, marketing or working with the public would benefit a customer service rep.
Required skills: Knowledge of their company’s products and services, good computer, analytical, communication, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills, patience and the ability to be courteous.
Salary: In Ireland, a customer service rep can expect to earn an average annual salary of €23,939, according to PayScale.ie. Pay scales can vary, however. For example, remuneration could be a flat rate or pro-rated, based on the number of sales or scores the customer service rep attains.
