This week’s career memes pay cheeky tribute to lab technicians, whose work involves collecting, testing and analysing samples of body tissues, body fluids or other substances.
Lab technicians, as the job title implies, work in laboratories or healthcare facilities, and it looks like that work will long continue – the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that employment of medical lab technicians is expected to grow by 15pc by 2020.
To get those jobs, lab technicians should possess, usually, an associate’s degree or post-secondary certificate, and in some cases they may even need to be licensed or registered with a governing body.
In Ireland, a lab technician working within health, safety and environment can expect to earn an average annual salary of €22,000- €45,000, depending on years of experience, according to CPL.
