A software developer does more than just code. He or she may also review current systems, recommend system improvements (and associated costs), prepare training manuals for users, test a product in a controlled and real environment prior to going live, and work with staff, analysts and designers.
Software developers should be able to communicate well, meet deadlines, and work as part of a team. A background in IT, science or maths is desirable, as well.
In Ireland, a software developer can expect to earn an annual salary of €24,493 – €55,972, according to PayScale.com.
