Digital Skills Academy and Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) have signed a three-year partnership agreement, which will involve the development of new digital media education and training programmes.
These programmes will be designed to support participants to take advantage of employment opportunities in the Irish technology sector – it has been estimated that more than 2,500 jobs are currently unfilled in the ICT and gaming industries in Ireland.
Announced in July, the first programme to be delivered under this partnership is WebElevate, a NFQ level 8 programme, focused on providing job seekers with skills for employment in digital media, in areas such as mobile application development, web commerce, global digital marketing and web video production.
The 12-month, part-time programme will be delivered by Digital Skills Academy at the Digital Hub, with DIT as the awarding body.
“DIT is very positive about engaging in partnerships that are designed to address gaps in the economy at this critical time. This programme, offered through Springboard, is a good example of that kind of partnership and will leverage new and different skills to meet emerging needs in the market place,” said Prof Brian Norton, president of DIT.
WebElevate has places for 120 job seekers, who aspire to work in the digital media sector. A key component of the programme is structured work placements on industry projects, with participants working in multi-disciplinary teams developing applications and services in the fields of mobile applications, e-commerce services and web video products.
