Six of Ireland’s youngest and best science researchers have been selected to work with 66 former winners of Nobel prizes in a week-long event in Germany.
The six won their places in a highly-competitive international competition and will take part in the prestigious event, the Lindau Nobel Laureate meeting, which involves 650 of the world’s top scientists.
Two researchers come from UCD while one each comes from NUI Galway, Trinity, UCC and the University of Limerick. Their research spans the areas of solar cells, medicine, nanotechnology and microbiology.
Their participation will be funded by the Irish Research Council.
“Being invited to take part in this event is a huge honour for any researcher, but the fact that six Irish young people are participating with the best in the world is just fabulous,” said Dr Eucharia Meehan, director of the Irish Research Council.
“How many people get to say that they have worked with 66 Nobel laureates?”
During their time in Lindau, the awardees will benefit from the knowledge of leading scientists whilst also having opportunities to network and explore collaborations with their peers from across the globe.
This experience will support the Irish participants’ progress to the next phase of their research careers.
