16 Mar 2015

From St Patrick’s Day tomorrow, companies and individuals worldwide will be able to register their own .irish domain names.

Irish web hosting and domains company Blacknight said that trademark holders will be given the option to register their own .irish domain names from tomorrow before the floodgates open on 21 May.

The .irish domain is operated by the Dot-Irish LLC registry.

Blacknight said that the .irish domain names will be available to everyone on a first come, first served based from 25 June.

The new top level domain (TLD) is available from Blacknight and any ICANN-accredited domain registrar.

“We are very proud to be an Irish business and know many of our customers are proud Irish business owners and citizens,” said Blacknight CEO Michele Neylon.

“We are very pleased to be able to offer .irish domains to our customers and are eager to see all the innovative ways the domain will be used.”
