As well as its giant spaceship HQ that is being built in Cupertino, Apple has sealed a deal to build a second round-shaped building in nearby Sunnydale.
As a signal of Apple’s extraordinary growth trajectory it appears its scale has even outstripped its new spaceship Cupertino HQ which is under construction.
Apple is understood to have closed a deal with Landbank Investment LLC’s Central & Wolfe campus. This is a curvacious 777,000 sq ft project at Central Expressway and Wolfe Road.
Apple to break the mould of Silicon Valley workplaces
The new campus, under development, has been given the tagline “Not Another Box” by the developers to buck the penchant in Silicon Valley for uniformly square buildings.
It replaces a former 1970s business park and the curvy buildings include a rooftop garden and two miles of walkable paths, plus an enclosed courtyard at their centre.
As well as the Cupertino and Sunnyvale expansions, Apple has also bought a 70-acre site in San Jose and signed a lease for a 300,000 sq ft building next door.
According to the Silicon Valley Business Journal, the expansion by Apple creates enough room for 3,000 more workers.
In recent months, signs emerged that Apple is also seeking to access test space for its much speculated electric vehicle and is reportedly scouting test locations, including a 2,100-acre high-security US Navy base near San Francisco.
