Sci-Tech 100: Ireland at the centre of the sci-tech universe

Our Sci-Tech 100 for 2016 is complete, with 100 Irish people based in countries across the globe drawn together in a celebration of their accomplishments in science, technology and business.

In our first edition of the Sci-Tech 100, we were struck by the number of Irish people advancing science and technology around the world. The Irish diaspora is a force to be reckoned with in all sectors and, this year, our focus has shifted entirely to the emigrants who are building Ireland’s global reputation.

Though these leaders, influencers and innovators have left our shores, they are helping to put this small country at the top in terms of science and technology.

Some on our list are working at the world’s most recognised sci-tech organisations, but the overall picture shows a diverse spread across a variety of sectors and businesses. Many crossed the Atlantic to find success, some flew east, and others kept their talents within the broader European community.

As always, our lists are representative, not definitive. There are far more Irish people the world over worthy of attention, and we hope this celebration of their pioneering peers reaches them and honours them too.
