With the global nanotech-enabled market having morphed from US$420m to US$254bn over the past decade, a new infographic aims to depict the impact of nanoscience in Ireland and globally.
The Irish nanoscience institute CRANN has created the infographic to show how nanoscience, the study of materials on the nanoscale, is impacting the manufacturing of products in areas from medicine to transport and technology.
According to the Forfás report Ireland’s Nanotechnology Commercialisation Framework 2010-2014, nanotechnology impacted US$254bn worth of products in 2009 globally, with the market forecast to grow to US$2.5trn by 2015.
The CRANN infographic, created to coincide with the institute’s 10th birthday, depicts how €300m has been invested in nanoscience research in Ireland through a combination of Government and EU funding over the past 10 years.
The infographic also charts how nanoscience is linked to €15bn worth of Irish exports.
