In the city of Izmir, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan became one of the few politicians to have made a ‘public’ appearance as a 10-foot hologram.
The prime minister had originally planned to visit the city as part of his tour of the country, but had to cancel his visit to the western Turkish city after a party meeting was called on the same day.
Seeing an opportunity, Erdoğan collaborated with Turkish 3D projection company, Polyvision Vision Systems, to produce the visually impressive projection.
Recorded on a green screen the day before the broadcast in Izmir, the prime minister waved to the thousands of the city’s people waiting in the main square. The hologram was very-well received by the public.
He went on to discuss issues of corruption that have plagued the country in recent months, and upcoming elections.
The technology uses a series of cameras that record the person from multiple angles and then transmits them through a blue-light ball projector placed on the stage floor.
