Intel’s sixth generation Core processors are due to launch in two weeks and are capable of driving three 4K monitors simultaneously at 60Hz, the company revealed at IDF 2015 in San Francisco.
The new processors will feature Iris Pro integrated graphics capable of supporting up to three 4K monitors at 60Hz. By comparison, Haswell chips could drive a single 4K screen at 30Hz while Broadwell could drive a single 4K monitor at 60Hz.
The new Skylake processors will feature a new power-saving technique called Speed Shift, which lets the CPU intelligently change its power state.

Improved energy efficiency could also result in up to 30pc longer battery life.
The new Skylake processors will also provide a 10pc to 20pc CPU performance boost in single and multi-threaded applications and 30pc higher Intel HD graphics performance.

Intel CEO Brian Krzanich said last week that the sixth generation of Intel Core CPUs will lead to the next frontier of computer innovation.
“We see the ‘sensification’ of computing emerging as the next frontier of computer innovation.
“For a few years, we’ve talked about the immersive experience of computing. Now we are pushing technology to capture what we can see, hear and even feel.
“That means devices that respond to voice commands without pushing any buttons. Gaming experiences that use our new sixth-gen Intel Core K SKU CPUs to enable new levels of immersive play. And robots that can see, respond to us and interact with us more naturally.”
Krzanich said that everything will soon be smart and connected.
“Not just our PCs and our phones. But the payment systems that instantly recognise us. Doors that instantly unlock when they ‘see’ family members. Or smart, touch-screen vending machines that allow you to charge your purchase to your phone automatically.
“Finally, we see computing increasingly as an extension of you: a world in which wearable technology integrates computing power and analytics in fashion, eyeglasses, jewellery and even sportswear.”
